Questions we answer every day
These are the real questions from Fort Worth-metro kitchens and job sites — answered the way our technicians answer them in person: directly, first sentence.
Air Conditioning & Cooling
How fast can you get to me when my AC dies in the summer?
NSG Heating & Air Specialists runs true 24/7 emergency service across the Fort Worth metro — call (817) 993-4822 (that's 993-HVAC) any hour. We give you an honest arrival window when you call.
Why does my upstairs never cool down?
In most Fort Worth two-story homes it's an airflow problem, not an equipment problem: undersized return air, long attic duct runs feeding the upstairs, and a single downstairs thermostat trying to control two very different heat loads. Our airflow diagnostics service measures your system room-by-room and gives you a written fix list — the answer is often zoning or a return-air correction rather than a bigger AC.
Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?
A useful rule: multiply the repair cost by the system's age — if it exceeds roughly $5,000, replacement usually wins the ten-year math. Systems 12+ years old facing a major component failure (compressor, coil) are usually better replaced, especially since modern SEER2-rated equipment costs far less to run through a seven-month Texas cooling season. NSG shows you both numbers before you decide.
How often does an AC need maintenance in North Texas?
Once a year at minimum — a precision tune-up each spring, before the first heat wave. Long Texas cooling seasons are hard on equipment, so fouled coils, weak capacitors, and clogged condensate drains can build up fast here. Annual documented maintenance also keeps most manufacturer warranties valid. NSG Residential Service Club members get two maintenance visits a year — one each season — backed by a Worry-Free, No Breakdown Guarantee.
Heating & Winter Readiness
Do Fort Worth homes really need heating service? Winters are short.
Short, but sharp — North Texas gets real freezes and occasional ice storms, and a furnace that sat idle for eight months is being asked to perform on the coldest night of the year. A fall maintenance visit verifies ignition, gas pressure, and — most importantly — heat-exchanger integrity and carbon monoxide safety. That safety check is the part you shouldn't skip, regardless of how mild the winter looks.
Is a heat pump a good idea in DFW, or should I stick with a gas furnace?
DFW's mild winters make it close to ideal heat-pump territory: a modern heat pump heats at 2–3× the efficiency of electric resistance and carries most of the winter easily. For gas-served homes, a dual-fuel setup (heat pump + gas furnace backup) is often the lowest-operating-cost configuration — the furnace takes over automatically during hard freezes. We'll run the comparison on your actual home and utility rates.
My furnace starts, then shuts off after a few seconds. What is that?
That short-cycle pattern is often a dirty flame sensor, or a clogged filter tripping the limit switch. Both are inexpensive fixes when caught early. If your furnace is doing this, shut it off and call (817) 993-4822; running it repeatedly stresses the ignition system.
Installations & the NSG Warranty
What makes an NSG installation 'custom'?
Every NSG replacement starts with a Manual-J style load calculation and a duct/static-pressure evaluation of your actual house — never 'same size as the old one.' We design the airflow first, then quote equipment options at multiple budget levels. It's the reason our installed systems run quiet, even, and efficient — and it's what 'perfected airflow' means when our customers use the phrase.
What warranty comes with a new NSG installation?
Two layers of coverage. Parts: your new equipment carries a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty — but only if it gets registered. NSG registers every system we install with the manufacturer, because when that step is skipped, coverage quietly drops to 5 years. Labor: NSG backs its own workmanship with a 2-year labor warranty. If our installation labor causes a problem in that window, the fix is on us, not you. Both terms come in writing with qualifying NSG installations.
How long does a system replacement take?
A standard changeout is typically completed in one day. Projects that include duct corrections, zoning, or custom design work can take longer — we tell you the timeline in the written quote before any work begins, and we protect your floors and clean up like we were never there.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NSG Heating and Air Specialists, LLC is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation — license #TACLA58590C, verifiable on the TDLR website — and fully insured. We're family-owned by Nick & Maria and based in northwest Fort Worth.
Pricing, Financing & Plans
Do you offer financing on new systems?
Yes — NSG offers financing through Regions on approved credit: a 12-month same-as-cash plan and fixed-rate loans over 5, 7, or 10 years, so you can replace a failing system without draining savings. Details are on our financing page, or ask when you request your quote.
Do you charge extra for nights and weekends?
NSG is open 24/7, holidays included. Platinum Maintenance Plan members pay no overtime fees; for everyone else, ask about after-hours rates when you call. We quote the repair before we start it, at any hour. And if you're a Service Club member, a repair need within 60 days of your maintenance visit means we apply your agreement to next year, to the repair, or refund your money.
What maintenance plans do you offer?
The NSG Residential Service Club has two tiers: the Gold Service Plan at $199 for the year (1 system, 2 visits per year) and the Platinum Service Plan at $299 for the year (1st complete system, 2 visits per year) — both with our Worry-Free, No Breakdown Guarantee. Businesses get the Commercial Quarterly Maintenance Plan at $125 per quarter, or $500 per year, per system. All three are on our plans page.
